Sometimes fate brings me clients and I shake my head in wonder about the path that led us to each other. It all seems meant to be though, as we learn about each other, share ideas and set a date. There is a certain kind of magic in the portrait process, where all the ingredients come together as if they conspired amongst themselves for it to be the best day. Even more special is the knowing of someone, without really knowing them. There is a trust that skips the surface like a stone and goes to the heart of the matter, or “the good part.” When this happens, the portraits become more than pictures, they become a window to the heart.
Labels are so limiting, but when you have an artist and a sartorial prep as brother and sister, so divergent, yet so closely bonded, it gives hope for the world. We may be different in our thoughts and ways but we are all human and transcending our differences to remain close is a beautiful thing.
“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.”
– Cecil Beaton
